Salahuddin Khawaja

Organisation: Khud

Salah spent 15+ years in the financial sector in New York, Hong Kong and Tokyo. Initially 11+ years as a management consultant with Deloitte. He then moved to J.P. Morgan and Bank of America where he spent 5 years in the Investment Bank running transformation related projects. Wanting to give back and recognizing the magnitude of the education crises he founded Khud. Inspired by Dr Sugata Mitra and his work, he believes that education technology coupled with self-learning is the 21st century solution to tackle the education crisis.

Khud uses self-organised learning techniques pioneered by TED Prize winner Sugata Mitra to impact the lives of marginalised children in Pakistan. Our goal is to build an EdTech platform to overcome the challenge of teacher quality and availability (1.25 million teachers are needed in Pakistan). Currently, we are in three schools in Pakistan’s cultural capital Lahore and one school in the mountainous city of Swat. Over the last 18 months we have changed the lives of over 250 children by instilling in them 21st century skills – innovation, design and problem solving through project-based learning, presentations, video editing and software development.
