Organisation: St. Aidan’s Church of England Primary School
Emma is a primary school teacher from the North East of England. She began using SOLE in the classroom as early as 2009 when she and Sugata Mitra first met. They began by setting GCSE and A Level questions to a class of nine year olds and were amazed by the results. These experiments were reported in the Journal of Education and Human Development.
As a result of these activities, the idea of SOLE was developed in Emma’s classroom and they began to spread the word to teachers in other schools.
The rest, as they say, is history, and Emma has been using SOLE as a teaching tool ever since; always with success and with continued awe at the results.
Emma has worked across the Key Stages in primary school, including four years as Early Years Leader and now works with Year 6. She is an English leader, SENDCo and Inclusion Coordinator and Assistant Head at her school.
